Woodland Fairies Collaboration

Woodland Fairies Collaboration

Fairies are much loved mythical creatures from folklore. Bringing together a group of cake artists that are new to collaborations, this fantastical theme attracted 40 members. We spoke to the organiser, Lindsey Trepany, of ZeZeLoves Cakes, to find out more.

Tell us about your collaboration

This collaboration was brought about because some were finding it hard to get included in already established collaborations. I wanted more people to feel included. Having more opportunities to share your passion with others makes for a wonderful life.

What inspired you to do this theme?

Fairies have always been near and dear to my heart. Something about the wonder and magic of them is calming and inspiring. I never thought this theme would get so much interest, but it seems others feel the same way about these lovely creatures.

Tell us about a few of the pieces that have been made

I gave the option to make something more woodland than fairy, and some took that and ran with it. Dana Dees, of Dees’Licious Cakes, came up with her sweet little Pumpkin Troll. Joyce Marcellus, of Toxic Sweets Shop, was so creative with her adorable Baby Puss Berry Fairy, who is more like a fairy pet. Others, like myself, went with the more traditional route sculpting fairies in the literal sense. Mine, however, has a twist with light up LED wings! I also gave everyone the option to either do a traditional cake or a sculpted piece. Eliana Morales did an amazing job with her sophisticated whimsical tiered cake. It encompassed elements of both woodland and fairy.

How many members were in your collaboration?

We had a total of 80 in the group, however, several had to drop out for various reasons. In total, we had 40 participate.

How did you decide on this group of people?

As mentioned before, I wanted to create a collaboration for those who were having a hard time getting into already established groups. Luckily for me, there was a lot of interest and it attracted some wonderful talent.

If you were to do it again, what would you do differently?

I am not sure I would do anything differently. Maybe brush up on my software skills. I have a background in graphic design, so I have a good knowledge of Adobe products, however, I need to find a great video editing software that will really wow people.
